SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo Lady Cats’ Varsity Soccer team accomplished two goals (pun intended) with first, a District 2-6A home game 1-0 shutout win over the Odessa Bronchos. And second, Senior Day recognition for 10 young ladies who finished up their high school career for the Orange, and Blue.
Senior Day honoring the 10 was held at Old Bobcat Stadium prior to the 5:30 p.m. matchup vs Bronchos. Family, other relatives, and friends clapped, and cheered loudly for each of their own when their names were announced.
The first senior honored was Adison Gonzales accompanied by her parents, and brother. Adison is a member of the National Honor Society, and is an ASU up-and-coming Scholar.
Kathy Bravo was escorted by her grandmother. Kathy who will attend Angelo State University in the fall plans to major in nursing.
Next was Adelyn Cardenas, Central’s Student Council President, and a 2025 CHS Homecoming duchess nominee. Adelyn plans to attend ASU.
Marisol Rios was accompanied by her parents. Rios is a member of DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America. Marisol is scheduled to attend ASU later in the fall.
Adrina Dena was escorted by her parents, and sister. Adrina is a three-year member of CHS Student Council. ASU is the college Dena chose to attend.
Adi Martinez’s parents, and sister accompanied her on this special day. Adi was recognized as a rising star at CHS. Adi’s plans are to attend ASU where she will major in veterinarian medicine. She has been accepted as a Distinguished Scholar, she is also a Blue, and Gold Scholar.
Taliyah Samarripa was accompanied by her father, Terence Fields, her mom, Thessalonia Samarripa, sister, Tiana Samarripa, and brother Gavyn Fields. Taliyah is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, CHS Student Council, she is in the top 10 percent of her graduating class, and a member of the National Honor Society. Samarripa is also a member of the CHS Orchestra. Taliyah made a verbal commitment to play soccer at Texas A&M Texarkana where she will major in Business Management.
Syd Bravo was escorted by parents. Syd is a two-year letterman, she participated in floral design, and plans to attend Howard College to be a cosmetologist.
Samantha Boney team manager, and soccer player was escorted by her parents, sisters, and brother. Samantha was on the Student Council, Bobcat Booster Club, she is an ASU up-and-coming Scholar, a National Honor Society member, a National Hispanic Award recipient, and is graduating in the top 10 percent of her class. Boney plans to attend ASU to pursue a degree in nursing.
The 10th member was Jill Hernandez who was escorted by her parents, and sister. Jill is the Ladycats team captain, and a two-year letterman. In Jill’s Sophomore year, she earned Honorable Mention, and as a junior was named Second-Team All-District. Hernandez is also a member of FCA. Jill committed to play soccer at Tyler Junior College where she will major in Stenography.
As for the game, the Lady Cats lone score came at the 34-minute mark in the first half when Kathy Bravo banged it in past Odessa’s goal keeper.
The Lady Cats (4-4-1) wrapped up their District 2-A season finale on Tuesday, March 20 on the road vs. Frenship Tigers. Frenship put the nail in the coffin on Central’s hopes on clinching a playoff spot with a 5-1 win.
Coach Bri Caudle’s team finished the season with an overall 4-10-3 record, and 4-5-1 to place 5th in the district.
