Head Coach Mark Smith’s Cats earned three consecutive district wins, including over Frenship, and finished third in the district.
Central Bobcats’ offense marshalled down the field, going 57 yards on its first series drive, capped off when quarterback Micah Smith handed off to Zeyvion “train” Johnson, who “bully balled” his way into the endzone for a 2-yard touchdown. The Cats’ 7-0 lead came with 8:33 left in the first quarter.
The Tigers responded with their own scoring drive when quarterback Quaid Ferris scampered in for a two-yard touchdown. After the PAT, Central and Frenship were tied 7-7, still in the first quarter.
When Central’s Smith overthrew his tight end over the middle, Tigers’ Jackson Thomas’ interception return put Frenship’s offense in position to get a 35-yard field goal from its kicker; that 10-7 score held up at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, with Frenship in scoring range, Ferris hands off to Braiden Dunkerson. Once Dunkerson runs left, he is stonewalled by an “Angry Orange” defense, but bounces to the right and races to the endzone for a five-yard touchdown score. After the PAT miss, it is Tigers 16, Cats 7 with 5:58 left in the second quarter.
Despite two interceptions by Smith, the quarterback drove his offense to a score, this one a monstrous 53-yard field goal by kicker Caleb Holbert with 1:09 left before the half. The field goal cut the Tigers’ lead to 16-10.
With Frenship facing 4th, and three at the Cats’ 42-yard line, Ferris’ pass to receiver Graham Stevens, who cuts across the middle, drops the ball with 24 seconds. At the half, it is Tigers 16, Cats 10.
On the Tigers’ first series drive of the opening third quarter, Frenship decides to go for it on fourth down. Ferris’s attempted pass to Peyton Archibald is badly underthrown.
When the Cats’ offense takes over at the 40, Central makes the Tigers’ defense pay. On second down at Frenship’s 35-yard line, Smith hands off to Johnson, who blasts through a huge hole created by the offensive line to score an uncontested touchdown run. Central takes the lead, 17-16, with 8:43 left in the third quarter.
After the Tigers and Cats fail on their three drives, Central’s next touchdown blows the game open. Cats’ quarterback Smith hooks up with wideout senior, Colton Hill, on the left side, lined up in the slot. Hill stutter-fakes right, then heads for the endzone pylon, where he catches the pass for a touchdown. With 4:59 left in the third quarter, Central leads Frenship, 24-16.
The Cats’ special teams unit slammed the door on the Tigers when Randin Covarrubio misjudged the ball, fumbled it, and Mason Van Sickle recovered it.
Bobcats’ offense, next score turns out to be Hill’s second one. Smith fakes to his back, spots Hill, who was this time on the right side of the formation in the slot, beats his defender to the outside to score a 10-yard touchdown pass. With 2:46 left in the third quarter, Central leads Frenship, 31-16, after three quarters.
Bobcats’ offense starts the fourth quarter with “bully ball” when Johnson bounces to the outside and races down the left sideline for a 29-yard gain before being knocked out of bounds.
First, and ten from the Tigers’ 29, Smith again goes to the player with the “hot hand” Hill, who goes up the seam, catches the ball at the six-yard line, and walks in for his third touchdown on “Senior Night.” Bobcats lead Tigers 38-16 with 11:25 left early in the fourth quarter.
On Frenship’s next possession, quarterback Ferris is pressured by Kash Jastrow, who tips the quarterback’s pass, which linebacker Chris Walker recovers.
CHS’ next score comes from power back, Johnson, who knifes in from the two-yard line to make it Central 45, Frenship 16 with 4:38 left in the game.
The Tigers’ offense was stonewalled by a tenacious “Sic em” Cats defense on this series, forcing backup quarterback James Ordonez’ center to low snap the ball. Ordonez dives to recover the ball, but Chris Walker scoops the ball in the endzone to cap off the final touchdown of the night for a 52-16 lead with 3:50 left in the game. Central finished the regular season 6-4, 3-2 in district.
Good news for Bobcat nation occurred when Amarillo ISD announced earlier on Friday, the Amarillo High School Sandies football team will have to forfeit six wins for using an ineligible player. One of those wins vs San Angelo Central came in Week 2 when the Sandies beat the Bobcats 41-21. With that forfeit win added on the Cats’ positive side of the ledger, Central’s record improves to 7-3.
Central (7-3) punched its ticket to the Class 6A Division II postseason playoffs for the first time since 2022. The Bobcats vs El Paso Pebble Hills Spartans (7-3) matchup is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa.

SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo Central High School Bobcats scored on their first series drive, then finished off the Frenship Tigers in the second half with a good ‘ole” fashion 52-16 beatdown in its District 2-6A finale season on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
