As for the red color she chose, it was in honor of the strong Latina women in her family.<br \/>\nOn a late Saturday afternoon, November 1, Campos, who served as master of ceremonies, announced the 1st-place, 2nd-place, and 3rd-place winners in both the Adult and Children categories.<br \/>\n<u>Adults<br \/>\n<\/u>1<sup>st<\/sup> place \u2013 Ashely Mar\u00eda, $1,000<br \/>\n2<sup>nd<\/sup> place \u2013 Maria La Catrina, $350<br \/>\n3<sup>rd<\/sup> place \u2013 Karina Esperanza, $150<br \/>\n<u>Children<br \/>\n<\/u>1<sup>st<\/sup> place &#8211; Rae Ann Rodriguez, DDLM Barbie<br \/>\n2<sup>nd<\/sup> place &#8211; Karlee Faith Acosta, Gift Certificate<br \/>\n3<sup>rd<\/sup> place \u2013 Mylena Navarro, Gift Certificate<br \/>\nhttps:\/\/www.sanangelohispanicheritage.org\/<br \/>\nThe 5-panel of judges included: Romana R. Gonzalez (Migrant Program), Alma Velez (KIXY FM), Rick Andrews (KIXY FM), Ashley Perales (Pop of Color owner), and Dr. Aldo Pi\u00f1on (Angelo State University Associate Professor, Department of Engineering).<br \/>\nAll the contestants were judged based on five categories:<br \/>\nCreativity &amp; Originality \u2013 Uniqueness of concept, imaginative interpretation, personal or artistic style<br \/>\nCultural Representation \u2013 Respectful, and 1-10 accurate reflection of D\u00eda de los Muertos, and La Catrina\u2019s symbolism<br \/>\nCraftsmanship &amp; Detail \u2013 Quality of materials, attention to detail, neatness, and overall process<br \/>\nCostume Design \u2013 Use of color, traditional elements (such as marigolds, skulls, lace), V (accessories)<br \/>\nStorytelling \u2013 A brief explanation or shared background, and how well it enhances the piece<br \/>\nTwo awards were given out. The first one, Food Truck Vendors\u2019 winner for the third year in a row, went to Lupita\u2019s Taqueria.<br \/>\nThe Best Booth Vendor award winner, announced as Ashley Gonzalez, owner of Lux Tooth Gems.<br \/>\nThe Day of the Dead Mexican event at Bart Dewitt Park, 325 S.
