{"id":8374,"date":"2025-10-30T02:39:06","date_gmt":"2025-10-30T02:39:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flacoguapomedia.com\/?p=8374"},"modified":"2025-10-30T20:40:25","modified_gmt":"2025-10-30T20:40:25","slug":"cats-lose-hoco-district-opener-58-42-to-rebels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flacoguapomedia.com\/?p=8374","title":{"rendered":"Cats lose HOCO district opener 58-42 to Rebels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Flaco Guapo Media founder, Jim S\u00e1nchez<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SAN ANGELO \u2013 Central High School\u2019s festivities capped off the week with its annual homecoming parade, pep rally, and the District 2-6A opener between the San Angelo Bobcats vs the Midland Rebels played at San Angelo Stadium.<br \/>\nFirst up was CHS\u2019 6 p.m. Homecoming Parade (HOCO) Parade of Walt Disney characters, ranging from Sleeping Beauty, Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter \u201cthe boy who refused to grow up\u201d Pan, The Mickey Mouse Club, a Central High School female dressed up as Minnie Mouse, other CHS students dressed in Hawaiian Aloha shirts with lei (wreath made of flowers worn around the neck) with a sign that read Teen Beach Movie, The Princess, and the Frog, the Tex-Anns, Central Mighty Bobcat Band, The Lady Cats Soccer team, Bobcats\u2019 football team, and the 12 king and queen nominees, etc.<br \/>\nCentral\u2019s 2025 theme for HOCO was Disney&#8217;s &#8220;Once Upon a Time&#8221;.<strong><u><br \/>\nCentral High School Duke nominees<br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong>Brady Billingsley<br \/>\nSutton Cole<br \/>\nCooper Collier<br \/>\nDrew Dotson<br \/>\nTalmadge Taylor<br \/>\nMason Van Sickle<br \/>\nVan Sickle was crowned the king during Central\u2019s 7 p.m. pep rally held at San Angelo Stadium on Thursday, October 9, 2025.<br \/>\n<strong><u>Central High School Duchess nominees<br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong>Jaylee Brinlee<br \/>\nAdelyn Cardenas<br \/>\nAddison Gentry was crowned this year\u2019s CHS queen before the football game on Friday, October 10, 2025.<br \/>\nAdison Gonzales<br \/>\nMaddie Rios<br \/>\nBriana Trevino<br \/>\nSan Angelo Central High School Bobcats (3-3, 0-1) (vs Midland Rebels (2-4, 1-0) District 2-6A opener offered everything from fantasy scoring 100 combined points, to \u201cflag city\u201d penalties galore (Cats 12 for 70 yards) \u201cno huddle\u201d quick explosive offenses that produced 1200 yards, 652 total yards. In contrast, Central\u2019s offense totaled nearly 600 yards.<br \/>\nBoth quarterbacks, JP Reyes and Micah Smith, combined for 854 passing yards and nine touchdowns.<br \/>\nReyes completed 25 of 40 passes for 473 yards, five TD passes, and an interception. Smith threw for 381 yards passing, went 22-37 with four touchdowns and one interception.<br \/>\nThe Rebels&#8217; quick strike \u201cno huddle\u201d offense scored on its first series when quarterback JP Reyes threw a 24-yard pass to receiver Ja\u2019Braylen Anders, who beat a Bobcats\u2019 defensive back for the touchdown. Midland led San Angelo Central 7-0 with 7:04 left in the first quarter.<br \/>\nCentral responded on its first drive, going 74 yards in six plays. Facing third down and eight from the Rebels\u2019 15-yard line, Micah Smith finds Colton Hill in the endzone for six points to tie the game 7-7.<br \/>\nWhen the Bobcats\u2019 special teams kicked off, Midland\u2019s Nic Moore caught it at the five-yard line, went straight up the middle, veered to the right side, and raced down the sideline untouched by the special teams\u2019 unit. The Rebels led 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.<br \/>\nWhen Cats\u2019 quarterback Smith\u2019s pass was tipped by a Rebels defensive back, it was intercepted by Moore. Midland\u2019s quarterback JP Reyes threw a short pass to Caden Ellis, who shook off a Central defender and then turned on the jets to score on an 80-yard touchdown run. After the PAT, Midland led Central High 21-7.<br \/>\nBobcats respond with a 48-yard drive in nine plays as Smith throws a five-yard touchdown to Hill to cut the Rebels&#8217; lead, 21-14, at the end of the first quarter.<br \/>\nIn the second quarter, Central goes 36 yards in four plays, culminating in a 12-yard touchdown by Smith; the PAT makes it Cats 21, Rebels 21. Midland comes back with a 7-play 69-yard drive to go ahead 28-21.<br \/>\nBobcats even the score on an 84-yard drive, capped off by a 12-yard pass as Smith finds Hill for another touchdown. The game is tied 28-28. In this shootout, Hill caught 12 passes for 270 yards.<br \/>\nThe Rebels then go 79 yards in 10 plays to retake the lead, 35-28. Central ties the game when the offense goes eight plays, 79 yards, this on a 3-yard touchdown run by Zeyvion Johnson to make it 35-35.<br \/>\nMidland scores quickly on an 8-play 57-yard drive to make it 38-35 when the kicker, Steven Verastegui, bangs in a 27-yard field goal at the end of the half.<br \/>\nThe Rebels\u2019 offense at the start of the third quarter goes 70 yards in 7 plays to make it 41-35. Midland adds another touchdown on a 10-play, 79-yard drive to take a 13-point lead, 48-35, when Reyes throws a 9-yard TD pass to Cisco Rodriguez in the third quarter.<br \/>\nThe Bobcats close out the third quarter when Smith throws a 13-yard pass to Gabriel Garcia to make it 48-42.<br \/>\nThe Rebels\u2019 offense tacks on 10 points, and its defense shuts out the Bobcats&#8217; offense to ruin Central\u2019s homecoming opener, 58-42.<br \/>\nCentral travels to Odessa, Texas, to play the Permian Panthers at Ratliff Stadium on Friday, October 17, 2025.<\/p>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Flaco Guapo Media founder, Jim S\u00e1nchez SAN ANGELO \u2013 Central High School\u2019s festivities capped off the week with its annual homecoming parade, pep rally, and the District 2-6A opener between the San Angelo Bobcats vs the Midland Rebels played at San Angelo Stadium.
